"How can I use the sleeping capsules at Istanbul Airport?" is one of the questions we get most often on WhatsApp. The short answer: Istanbul Airport (IST) has three paid places to lie down, the iGA Sleepod capsules, the YOTELAIR transit hotel and its hourly cabins, and the YOTEL on the public side of the terminal. Which one you can use depends on one thing above all: whether you are on the far side of passport control.
This guide explains where each one is, what it costs as of October 2026, how to book, what you get inside, and how a nap at the airport fits around hotel check-in times. Prices come from the airport's own iGA Pass and istairport.com pages and from yotel.com; where an operator does not publish a figure, we say so.

The iGA Sleepod: where it is and how to use it
The Sleepod is the airport's own capsule service, run by iGA, the airport operator. There are 44 sleeping cabins, on the airside of the international departures floor, to the left of the lifts that take you down to Gates D. It is airside, so you reach it after security and passport control, like a gate. Signage is not always obvious, so if you cannot find it, ask at an information desk for "Sleepod, D gates".
Each pod is a single flat bed with a mattress, a sheet and a pillow, a lid or hood that closes over you, a luggage compartment under the bed and charging points (a power socket and USB). Staff at the front desk check you in and show you to your pod. Recent traveller reviews add a few things worth knowing: the lid dims the terminal but does not make it dark, airport announcements are muffled rather than silent, and the air can feel warm and still.
Sleepod prices per hour (as of October 2026)
| Time of day | Price per hour (incl. taxes) | Excluding taxes |
|---|---|---|
| 07:00–19:00 | €17.50 | €14.46 |
| 19:00–23:00 | €25 | €20.66 |
| 23:00–03:00 | €30 | €24.79 |
| 03:00–07:00 | €25 | €20.66 |
| Comfort kit (blanket, pillow, pillowcase) | €5 |
So three hours in the daytime cost €52.50, and four hours in the middle of the night €120. Passengers aged 65 and over get 35% off at the sales points. Older blogs quoting €6–9 or €8–11 per hour are describing the 2020–2023 prices and are out of date.
Booking, payment and the small print
- Online: the Sleepod page on igapass.com lets you pick a date, start time, number of hours and a cabin, and pay in advance. Worth doing for the overnight hours, when connecting passengers fill the pods.
- Walk-in: you can also buy time at the desk in front of the pods, subject to availability. The service is listed as available 24/7.
- Pay for whole hours: prices are per hour, so decide how long you want and add a buffer for the walk to your gate.
- No wake-up call: set an alarm on your phone. Staff will not wake you for boarding.
- Valuables: do not count on a lock on the luggage drawer. Keep your passport, phone and wallet in the pod with you.
- No shower at the Sleepod area; there are toilets on the concourse nearby.
- Children: the official pages give no age rules. The pods are built for one person, so families will be more comfortable in a YOTELAIR or YOTEL room.
YOTELAIR: the airside transit hotel and Recharge Cabins
YOTELAIR is a full hotel inside the international transit area, in areas A–B near the duty-free zone. According to the airport, YOTEL runs 451 cabins at IST in total, 280 of them airside. YOTEL is explicit about access: you must hold a boarding pass for an international flight, domestic passengers cannot book it, and arriving passengers who have passed passport control into Türkiye cannot get back in.
- Hotel rooms by the hour: minimum 4 hours, between 04:00 and 23:59, booked by email. Overnight bookings run roughly 18:00 to 11:00. Rooms range from a 13 m² Premium Queen to a family room with a bunk for four.
- Recharge Cabins: small private cabins with a bed, a TV and a desk, plus shared showers and bathrooms. They are sold by the hour, walk-in only. Find them on the Museum and iGA Lounge floor: follow the YOTELAIR signs and take the escalator up one floor, opposite the iGA Lounge entrance.
- Lounge and shower: YOTELAIR's Revolve Lounge package costs €80 per person for four hours, and lounge guests can add a shower for €20 (as of October 2026).
- Luggage: only what you carry on. If your bags are checked through, that is fine; if you need your suitcase, you need the landside hotel instead.
Neither the airport nor YOTEL publishes the hourly room or cabin rates, which change with demand. Ask for the price when you book or at the desk.
YOTEL landside: the one arriving passengers can use
The landside YOTEL (171 cabins) is on the departures floor, opposite check-in area P, before security and passport control. YOTEL says it is open to anyone visiting the airport and needs no boarding pass; if you arrive on an international flight, you simply clear passport control first. Rooms can be booked by the hour, minimum four hours, between 04:00 and 23:59, by email; overnight stays are booked on yotel.com. Rooms have rain showers, there is a 24-hour gym and the Komyuniti bar and restaurant, and breakfast costs €20 per person.
Because you keep all your luggage with you, this is also the right choice if you have a domestic connection or have to collect checked bags. Phone: +90 212 942 66 66.
Can arriving passengers use the sleeping pods?
This is where most plans go wrong. The Sleepod and YOTELAIR are on the departures side of passport control. When you land in Istanbul as your final destination, you walk from the gate to passport control, enter Türkiye and collect your bags. From that point you cannot go back airside without a boarding pass for a departing international flight.
- Transit passengers who stay airside between two international flights can use the Sleepod and YOTELAIR. Do not go through passport control.
- Arriving passengers whose trip ends in Istanbul realistically have two choices: the landside YOTEL (from 4 hours) or heading into the city and leaving bags at their hotel.
- Departing passengers can use everything once they have their boarding pass and have cleared passport control.
Early arrival, hotel check-in at 14:00: what to do
You land at 05:30 after a night flight, and your hotel's check-in is at 14:00 or 15:00. You are exhausted. You have three good options:
- Sleep at the airport first. After passport control and baggage claim, go up to the landside YOTEL and book a four-hour stay (book by email in advance if you can). Shower, sleep, then send us a WhatsApp message when you are ready. Your driver collects you and you reach the hotel around midday instead of at 7am.
- Go straight to the hotel. At dawn the motorways are quiet, so the drive is often the fastest of the day. Ask the hotel in advance about early check-in; if the room is not ready, most hotels store luggage and you can have breakfast nearby.
- Combine both. Rest at the airport, then a slow ride into town with a stop for breakfast on the way.
With us, you do not need to guess the time in advance. Book the transfer for your landing; we track your flight, and if you decide to rest first, tell us on WhatsApp and we move the pickup to when you are ready and agree where to meet. A Private Mercedes Vito costs $70 to Sultanahmet and $65 to Taksim, per vehicle for up to 6 passengers and 12 suitcases, tolls included, paid to the driver in cash (EUR, USD or TRY). See the Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet and Istanbul Airport to Taksim prices, and our late-night and early arrival guide.
Landing early? Book your car now and set the pickup time when you are rested.
Check-out at noon, flight at midnight
The opposite problem: hotel check-out is at 11:00 or 12:00 and your flight leaves late at night. Ten hours with a suitcase is a long time. Some ways to fill it:
- Rest airside. If your airline lets you check in and drop bags early enough, go through passport control and book a Sleepod or a YOTELAIR stay before the flight. Check-in and bag-drop opening times are set by each airline, so check yours: a 23:00 flight may not accept a suitcase at 13:00.
- Rest landside. If you cannot check in yet, the landside YOTEL takes you with all your luggage, from four hours. The airport also has a left-luggage office on the arrivals floor.
- Make the afternoon count. Book a car with a driver by the hour ($40 per hour Private Mercedes Vito, minimum 3 hours) and keep your bags in the car while you see the Bosphorus or the old city, then finish the day at the airport. Tell us your plan on WhatsApp and we confirm the total before the day.
Turkish Airlines advises arriving 3 hours before an international flight, and IST has a security check at the terminal entrance as well as at passport control, so build that into the plan. Our Istanbul layover guide has more ideas for long waits.
Free rest areas and other options at IST
If you would rather not pay, the airside piers have seating areas with reclining chairs, free and first come, first served. They fill up during the busy overnight connection waves, the lights stay on and announcements continue. The iGA Lounge on the international mezzanine is the comfortable middle ground for a few hours, with food and seats but no beds; buy access through iGA Pass or use a lounge membership. Our Istanbul Airport guide covers the lounges, Wi-Fi and left luggage in detail.
Sleeping pods at Sabiha Gökçen (SAW)
Flying from Istanbul's Asian-side airport? Sabiha Gökçen has Kepler sleep cabins on the mezzanine after passport control, for international departures. The airport lists 28 single units for men, 14 for women and 5 family rooms, plus showers, smart toilets and lockable luggage cabinets; each unit has a bed, a TV, charging points and a tablet for ordering and extending your stay. Prices are on keplerclub.com: Kepler's own blog listed €18 per hour for a single pod in August 2026, but confirm on the booking page. As at IST, the cabins are airside, so they suit departures and transfers, not arrivals.
On the landside, the 128-room ISG Airport Hotel sits next to the terminal and runs a shuttle from the stop to the right of the terminal exit. More in our Sabiha Gökçen Airport guide.
Wherever you rest, Istanbul VIP (Regatta Turizm, TÜRSAB licence 10138) can take you on from there: fixed prices per vehicle, the driver waiting inside arrivals with a name sign, free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Message us on WhatsApp at +90 507 055 44 36 or book online.
